Directions to The Waterworks Museum
Cross the River Wye in Hereford
via Greyfriars Bridge and turn left at the traffic lights at its
northern end into Barton Road. In about 400 yards you will cross
the disused railway line by way of a slightly humped bridge. Turn
left immediately over the bridge, following the brown ‘Waterworks
Museum’ sign. In about 700 yards turn left downhill, again
following the brown ‘Waterworks Museum’ sign to the parking area.
(Disregard any ‘Broomy Hill Water Works’ signs you may see
these will take you to the modern operating works!)
To continue to Thruxton Court ... backtrack back across
Greyfriars Bridge, but keep to the righthand lane to follow the A465
Abergavenny signs at the Asda roundabout. Keep following the A465
Abergavenny signs until you come to Lock’s Garage at Allensmore. This is a
Shell garage on the righthandside, some 4 miles after the Tesco’s roundabout
at Belmont. Turn right here onto the B4348, signposted Hay on Wye. In 1.4
miles turn left, signposted Abbey Dore / Cockyard ... the sign itself cannot
be seen from afar as the road bears the left quite sharply at this point,
but there is the usual ‘side road’ advanced warning sign. In 200 yards turn
right and Thruxton Court is just beyond the church.
Directions directly to Thruxton Court
Go towards Hereford on the A49. One mile after Harewoodend turn left onto the B4348, signposted Hay on Wye. Continue to follow the Hay on Wye directions through Wormelow and Much Dewchurch until you come to the A465 Hereford to Abergavenny road. Cross the main road, still following the Hay on Wye signs and continue for 1.4 miles then turn left, signposted Abbey Dore / Cockyard ... the sign itself cannot be seen from afar as the road bears to the left quite sharply at this point, but there is the usual ‘side road’ advanced warning sign. In 200 yards turn right and Thruxton Court is just beyond the church.
